Past nights have featured the Lucky Stars, the Bonebrake Syncopators, and my Benny Goodman-quartet style group w/ Russ Reinberg, DJ Bonebrake and Chris Dawson.

The Chit Chat is held in the amazing Art-Deco masterpiece that is now known as the Park Plaza Hotel:

Located at at 607 S. Park View, between Sixth and Wilshire, it's right by the MacArthur Park Red Line stop.

The Chit Chat also has fantastic cocktails, even by my standards. We rarely get to play venues where you can get a properly made drink! Check out the full details at www.thechitchatclub.net

The band starts at 10:30pm, and admission is only $15. ($10 before 9:30pm).

We've got all our best players, and we'll be joined by special guest vocalist Wendy Rea.

First up, The 24-Hour Cancer Danceathon, which raised over $180,000.00 last year to benefit cancer research and treatment at City of Hope. The event is always really fun, and is something substantial we can all play a part in. Second, we'll be playing the second annual Catalina Swing Dance festival along with George Gee. Finally, we'll be following up with our annual night before Thanksgiving Surprise. For those of you who've attended past night-before-thanksgiving gigs, you know they're always well attended and extra special. Hope to see everybody at all three gigs!

Wow what an (extended) weekend!

The Campus Five began the weekend at the Beantown Swing Camp. It was our first time, and we had a blast! The communal, immersive environment combined with an intimate performance space made for a real connection between the band and the campers. For the first time ever, all of the local musicians we used during the weekend were dancers themselves - Shawn Hershey, Erik Hevron-Smith, and Michael Valdez (thanks to Solomon Douglas for the recommendations!).

A bonus was Jonathan, Hilary and Josh getting to spend a solid 45 minutes with Norma Miller, listening to her talk about the Savoy, Chick Webb, Jo Jones, and the battle between Webb and Benny Goodman. We were hanging at the camp's Happy Hour, and she just sat down with us and hung out. Amazing. Hopefully, we'll have some photos or video to post soon.

Then we (Jonathan, Hilary, Albert and Josh) made our way to NYC to open Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing Festival. We were met by other members of the Jonathan Stout Orchestra from Los Angeles, including Russ Reinberg, Dan Weinstein, Wally Hersom, and Chloe Feoranzo. We filled out the band with an A-list of NYC musicians, including Jon-Erik Kellso, Bria Skonberg, Dave Brown, Harvey Tibbs, Mark Shane, and Pete and Will Anderson.

We lucked out and the weather was perfect for opening night. DJ Ryan Swift and instructor Heather Flock opened the night. Ryan took this great video of the band rocking out on "Dark Eyes
